DnD is not the ultimate authority on fantasy creatures.  Nor is WoW or EverQuest or any other game, be it computer, video, tabletop, or larp.  Not even Tolkien is the ultimate authority on fantasy.  DEAL WITH IT. These creatures were invented well before the game-inventors were ever born.  Orcs may be Tolkien's invention, I'm not sure, but all the others have been around for centuries if not millenia through folk lore and traditional stories.  Not all vampires are sparkly or pale, not all elves are pretty or gracious, not all gnomes dance like perverts, etc.  Enjoy your fandom, just don't assume it to an absolute authority on anything other t
